EATINGDISORDER

FROM SELF ANNIHILATION - TO UNDERSTANDING AND EMPATHY

Eating disorders rarely—if ever—are solely about food, appearance, weight, or the body.

They are often strategies that the body and nervous system develop to cope with feelings and states that feel unbearable from within.

For many, the eating disorder is an attempt to create a “zero point” - a moment that allows them to endure being alive, being in their body, and being themselves.

Some experience anxiety, chaos, pressure, shame, guilt, or self-hatred so intensely that the body almost “throws it up” on a cellular level. This is not symbolic - it is a direct, physical, and felt experience of the nervous system trying to regulate itself.

Strategies can include restriction, bingeing, purging, or compulsive patterns - ways to match what feels impossible to bear.

When we view the eating disorder from this perspective, it becomes clear that it is not the enemy.

NEITHER FRIEND, NOR FOE

It´s also not a friend, as many believe.

The true friend is the very impulse behind it; the deeper intention that has always wanted to support you, keep you alive, and help you get through the unbearable.

The strategy – the eating disorder, that is – is the messenger, while the impulse/intention behind the strategy is what truly matters: the real friend, life itself – the attempt to get through as best as possible.

Our work together is about:

  • Approaching your inner layers with curiosity, not judgment.

  • Learning to distinguish between the strategies your eating disorder uses and the deeper intentions behind them.

  • Recognizing that the eating disorder is not who you are, but a pattern—a way your mind and body have tried to help you survive.

  • Supporting your nervous system so you can find more calm in your thoughts, emotions, and relationship with your eating disorder, giving yourself moments of pause.

  • Creating a space where your own pace and comfort guide the journey, strengthening your sense of trust and safety.

As these layers of protection are met with understanding, new possibilities open up - allowing you to be more present in your body, your life, and yourself - without relying on the eating disorder. At the same time, the intention behind it can emerge more clearly, offering support and guidance in the here and now.
